My Journey towards Becoming a Certified Relaxation Coach Part 2: Progressive Muscle Relaxation (PMR)

Sarah_Marcos_82

As part of my Relaxation Coach certification I did a training in Progressive Muscle Relaxation (PMR), a relaxation technique, which is especially suitable for people who find it difficult to relax or for those who easily fall asleep during relaxation exercises. This might sound contradictory at first, but I will explain further down why it isn’t. This weekend has yet again deepened my knowledge and understanding of stress and I learned another relaxation technique allowing me to offer a wide array of different techniques. I find it very important, because we are all different and different techniques work for different people.

Allow Your Body to Speak to You

FullSizeRender
Our thoughts rule our life. This is true for most of us, most of the time. We are guided by what we think we should or should not do and rarely allow our bodies and how we truly feel to guide us. This can lead to higher stress levels, lower levels of contentment and a feeling of imbalance. Working on allowing your body to speak to you can be done with simple techniques and will have a huge positive impact on your sense of self and overall well- being.

My Birth Preparation

MATERNITY Sarah & Marcos (2)
A big part of my pregnancy journey was preparing for birth. As I wrote in my previous posts from the beginning of my pregnancy on I set my mind to wanting to experience my pregnancy positively on a physical and mental level. I had the same intention for birth and I knew that a positive and natural birth experience required preparation. Giving birth definitely is not easy. It is a mental and physical marathon and to be able to successfully run a marathon one needs to train well and do so over an extended period of time.

A Young Man’s Thoughts

leon1
Sometimes I wake up from lucid dreaming, feeling stressed and thoughtful. I feel trapped between the old me, which always rejected authority and a desire and a need to become a part of it.

Being young I felt opposed to structure, growing older I realized you need to master structures – to be able to create your own. The path towards finding your own way often starts with confusion and worries. I have learned to convert worries into constructive thoughts and triggers for growth. Once I realized I care about the future, I started making the most of the present.

Pregnancy & Exercise

sarah_marcos_171

Exercise is something we benefit from at any given time in life, both physically as well as mentally. The moment a women is pregnant though she is not only responsible for her own well- being anymore but also for the well- being of that little life growing inside of her. If one’s own well- being has not been a big enough motivation to take care of one self, the baby’s well- being should be. Many pregnant women, including me at the beginning of my pregnancy, are unsure of what exercises they are allowed to do and what they aren’t. At times not being sure what is ok to do when pregnant together with the belief that pregnancy justifies being lazy and moving as little as possible, keeps some pregnant women away from exercising. Exercise during pregnancy though is so extremely important and a great way to feel energetic and happy throughout pregnancy. In this post I am sharing my experience and knowledge around the topic.

img_2302-2

Being pregnant for me has been the most beautiful experience so far. It is however also accompanied by some challenges, both physically as well as mentally. Within my first 5 months of my pregnancy I have learned different ways of dealing with some of these challenges, which I will be sharing on Being Me by Sarah. I’ll be uploading two short videos a week with different exercises, which help dealing with different physical pregnancy issues. I’ll also be sharing some posts on the blog. The videos are all pregnancy friendly, sometimes specifically targeting pregnancy issues, but most of them are helpful also for those of you who are not pregnant (men and women).

Beginning a Yoga Practice

P1050644The practice of yoga is a beautiful one, which truly enriches one’s life. I can tell you from my own experience. There are so many ideas, expectations, and stereotypical opinions around yoga, which unfortunately prevent many from practicing yoga. In this post I will address some of those, talk a bit about why yoga is for everyone and give some tips for those of you who would like to begin a regular yoga practice or just try it out, but are not sure how to. I will be focusing on the physical practice of yoga in this post, though it is important for me to mention that yoga is not just limited to the physical practice, but includes all aspects of life.

Switching from Symptom to the Source: Mind Over Diet

IMG_8972 copy

So many people constantly struggle with their weight, the way their body looks like, and their eating behaviour. They then try to work on their diet, but often do not even do a check- in with their mind. What I have learned with the help of my psychology studies, my certification as a nutritional coach and through life and my own experiences is that our eating behaviour most of the time is an expression of what is going on in our mind, rather than the source of a problem. So we should choose working on our mind over working on our diet. What exactly I mean with that and how it can be done I will explain further on.

Self-Knowledge for True Contentment

Mova_PhotoShooting_120

When was the last time you spent time on getting to know yourself? Sitting down without distractions observing yourself, your emotions, your behavior, and your way of living?

We deserve to live content and fulfilling lives, in order to do so we must understand our own responsibility for that and invest time and effort. Many of us are so into complaining and doing that we forgot to observe and be. If we want to be happier and improve our life it is crucial to first gather enough knowledge about our self to be able to do so. We cannot change something in the proper way if we have no knowledge about it.
