How Do You Treat Your Self? Reflecting on Non- violence in Daily Life.

sarah_marcos_370
We all have heard about violence and shocking stories depicting acts of violence, where one wonders how one human can be that cruel with another human or other living beings. How often however have you reflected on how violent or non- violent you are in your daily life, including with your self? In this post I will share my thoughts on violence and how non- violence can be manifested in daily life and how it can be incorporated into daily activities, leading to be softer with your self and others, expressing more love in all sorts of areas of life. In this article I focus on non- violence towards the self. What I am writing is a result of different fields and schools of thoughts I have learned from and my own reflection.

Mindful Eating- a Short Introduction

IMG_3907
Both mindfulness as well as eating are two widely discussed topics. We can find all kind of information and tips for what and when we should eat and what and when we should not eat. The topic of mindfulness starts to get to be known more and more, which is great, because it really has the power to heighten our well- being by taking us into the present moment without judgment. Eating, being such a widely discussed topic is helpful in some way, but in others it just drives us crazy. Bringing mindfulness and eating together allows us to understand who we are when we eat and that is, as research suggests, extremely important. I have discussed the role of our mind in eating in my last post, which you can find here. In that post I listed mindful eating as one way of getting in touch with our mind. I will now explain what mindful eating is and how it can be introduced into our lives.

Switching from Symptom to the Source: Mind Over Diet

IMG_8972 copy

So many people constantly struggle with their weight, the way their body looks like, and their eating behaviour. They then try to work on their diet, but often do not even do a check- in with their mind. What I have learned with the help of my psychology studies, my certification as a nutritional coach and through life and my own experiences is that our eating behaviour most of the time is an expression of what is going on in our mind, rather than the source of a problem. So we should choose working on our mind over working on our diet. What exactly I mean with that and how it can be done I will explain further on.

Being Present: Why the Here & Now is so Meaningful

IMG_9018

In the past days Marcos and me have given two different classes covering the topic of mindfulness, one workshop at Adidas Runbase in Berlin and one Extended Masterclass at Damn Good Yoga in Hamburg. I deeply believe in the concept of mindfulness, because I myself know how living mindfully positively influences one’s well- being. Mindfulness is so powerful because it allows us to connect to our self and takes us to the present moment. In this post I will explore the meaning of being in the here and now and why it is so important.

Lifestyle Choices and Decision Making: the Role of Happiness in the Equation

IMG_8983 copy

‘Whatever you decide to do make sure it makes you happy.’ – Paulo Coelho

I believe that all of us want to live a happy life, but we allow ourselves to get distracted from it and place great importance on other factors, which can lead to leaving happiness out of the equation when making choices in life. Many equalize happiness by status, achievement, look, or clothing. The problem with that is that it can never bring long lasting and true contentment. The only thing that does is an inner state of being, but when we replace that inner state of being with something external we can be sure that we will keep searching and seeking for the rest of our lives.

The morning is a very special time of the day. It is an opportunity for a fresh new start, an opportunity to live another day, structure it the way you want, and make choices that allow you to feel good with your self. It does not take long to follow the routine and is suitable for everyone even if you don’t want to commit to getting up much earlier than you usually do.

‘You Must Be a Yoga Expert Now!’- How My Friends’ Reaction Helped Me to Gain Even More From My Experience in India

IMG_6245

One of the most frequent comments I have been hearing from friends and family after returning from India and telling them about the three different amazing courses we did (Yoga anatomy with Gary Carter, Ashtanga Yoga Retreat with Mark Robberds and Laruga Glaser, 300hr Yoga Teacher Training) is: You must be a yoga pro now, a real yogi!
By ‘yoga pro’ and ‘real yogi’ they mean me being able to do very advanced postures- upside down, twisted, arm balances… I did learn a lot about the physical practice of yoga and improved my own practice, but much more important than that was Read More

Self-Knowledge for True Contentment

Mova_PhotoShooting_120

When was the last time you spent time on getting to know yourself? Sitting down without distractions observing yourself, your emotions, your behavior, and your way of living?

We deserve to live content and fulfilling lives, in order to do so we must understand our own responsibility for that and invest time and effort. Many of us are so into complaining and doing that we forgot to observe and be. If we want to be happier and improve our life it is crucial to first gather enough knowledge about our self to be able to do so. We cannot change something in the proper way if we have no knowledge about it.

The Real Magic of Yoga: Embodiment

Mova_PhotoShooting_26The physical practice of yoga with it’s different bodily postures, meditation, and breathing exercises has so many amazing and powerful benefits. The benefits, which are mentioned a lot, are a strong and flexible body and a calm mind. Many of us have heard of these benefits and they all sound great and feel good to the ones who practice. For me though there is something much deeper and stronger than just strengthening and lengthening the body and feeling calmer: embodiment.
